Camilla Sim - Focusing Member in london

Biography

Everything is in a process of change and when things feel stuck or overwhelming, focusing (tuning into the body’s inner wisdom) helps to find a way forward one small step at a time.   What I particularly like is that it helps us to find our way out of dead ends in which we find ourselves.  When faced with either/or scenarios focusing helps us to find a spaciousness inside ourselves where creative alternatives can emerge.  I have also found that it provides a pathway for exploring spirituality.

I studied Philosophy as my first degree and was very drawn to Existentialism.  This led me to study for an MA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy at Regents College.  There I became interested in psychoanalysis and moved away from the more humanistic tradition.  Once qualified as an Adult Psychotherapist (in 1996) I began working with children in inner city schools.  My next step was a conversion course to Child Psychotherapy at the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (2006) where attachment theory added a new perspective to my work.   Continuing to work in schools I then discovered focusing and trained with Peter Afford to become a BFA recognised Focusing Practitioner.  In conjunction with this I travelled to Holland to train in Children Focusing with Rene Veugelers and Harriet Teeuw, leading to registration with TFI as a Children’s Focusing Trainer.

I am registered with UKCP as a Child and Adult Psychotherapist and Accredited Supervisor.
