Carolann Samuels - Focusing Member in south east

Biography

Focusing is something I looked for (without knowing it was called Focusing!) for a long time, and when found it was hard to see how I managed without it. Its gentle processes have given me the inner space for my life to change and for me to grow. I am keen to share this great gift of Focusing with others.

As I pay attention to the feelings inside me, I learn to trust my intuition more, and to understand aspects of my life which have long puzzled me. For me Focusing is affecting the whole of my life, from creativity to decision-making, coping with change and addressing difficulties – and more. I enjoy the safe space Focusing offers me to explore all of this, and always feel better for Focusing.

BFA Recognised Focusing Practitioner

What I'm Doing Now

I offer one-to-one Focusing sessions, and Focusing Skills workshops in small groups.  These can be face-to-face in east Kent, and by phone or Skype – so anywhere in the world.  And Skype works surprisingly well!

You don’t need to have learned Focusing before – I will be your guide through the Focusing process.   And if you have particular issues you would like to explore through Focusing, I can be your Listener.

I also teach Yoga, both in a general class and a chair-based class for those with mobility difficulties, as well as Yoga days in east Kent.  All my Yoga classes are open to everyone – those with experience and those with a curiosity about Yoga.  My Yoga teaching subtly changed since I learned Focusing, and I have found that this awareness has helped both my own Yoga and that of my students.  Many Yoga teachers encourage their students to ‘listen to their bodies’: this phrase has taken on new meaning for me with Focusing in my own practice and in the way I teach.

Focusing is Mindfulness – and more. We explore ways of being with ourselves, our experiences and emotions; improving our sense of wellbeing and physical and mental health. These are natural skills that we can rediscover and reconnect with. Non-judgemental, safe and gentle, they support us in finding insights into issues in our lives and reconnecting with the flow of life within us. As we turn to our present moment experience together, we learn ways to help guide us in creativity, decision-making and emotional wisdom. Handouts will be available. No assessment or written work is required, although you may wish to bring pen and paper for note-taking. This day school can be a stand-alone introduction to Focusing, and it also forms the first six hours of the 60-hour Focusing Skills course, recognised by the British Focusing Association. Day 2 will be on 21st October 2017 and 17th February 2018 If you have previously attended an introduction to Focusing then you are also very welcome to join us; many people find that repeating Focusing Skills enables them to find more depth in their experience.
