Focusing Oriented Therapist

I am a focusing-oriented therapist living and working in Norwich, Norfolk, UK.

I am an accredited counsellor and therapist (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and hold diplomas in Person-Centred Therapy and Focusing-Oriented Therapy. I am recognised by the Focusing Institute (New York) as a Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapist and Focusing Trainer.

What I'm doing

I work mainly through two local charities:

  • the Matthew Project providing help to substance misusers, and
  • the Big C Centre providing help to cancer patients and their relatives.

I am studying for a PhD at the University of East Anglia, researching the use of focusing-oriented therapy to work with those coping with ‘addiction’ and substance misuse. I act as the Focusing Institute’s ‘space holder’ for focusing and addiction – aiming to help those interested in this topic make connections. An example of my academic work is a paper presented to the 22nd International Focusing Conference, 2010 Hohenwart Forum, Germany – “Being-with the being-without: relational focusing with substance misusers”.

  • How to contact me

I am keen to connect with those interested in the use of focusing or focusing-oriented therapy to deal with substance misuse and ‘addiction’. I am compiling a bibliography of any published material on this topic and would like to hear of any references that might be relevant.
