My background in Focusing

I am from Chicago where I was first introduced to Focusing and Active listening in 1970 at Changes at the Blue Gargoyle located in the Disciples of Christ in the area of the University of Chicago. Eugene Gendlin, Mary Hendricks and others of Changes ( i.e. Jim Iberg and Anne Wiser Cornell, Linda Olson ). I was also a student of Gendlin's at the University of Chicago. Theory Construction class. The content of this course was to become the foundation of Thinking At the Edge (TAE). Focusing and Theory Construction influenced in the development of my teaching approach

I came to London in 1980 and set up a Masters degree programme with Antioch University to study psychotherapy for application to develop an education methodology; included studies with Philadelphia Association ; R.D. was one of the teachers. In early 1980, to introduce UK to Focusing, I conducted a small group in Active Listening and Focusing Group in London and another in Sheffield when I moved there in 1991. Barbara McGavin Edwards was a member of the London group but do not remember others. I later had meetings with Peter Afford and Rob Foxcroft and became a member of the BFA. At the time I was not aware of anyone else teaching Focusing in UK. I have been teaching Focusing and Active Listening in UK for past 42 years.
