More

This comprehensive foundation course in Focusing and listening is a combination of online (Zoom) group sessions and one long-weekend residential retreat. No prior experience of Focusing is required. The course is divided into five sections: four blocks of four Zoom sessions (i.e. 16 in total), between mid-January and the end of June, plus the residential retreat on April 20th - 22nd. You are welcome to attend the introductory block of four Zoom sessions without committing upfront to the whole course if you wish. Each online  group will have a maximum of five participants and all participants will be invited to come together for the in-person retreat. If the residential component is not accessible for you, it is also possible to do this section of the course online. There are currently places available in a Thursday evening group (6 - 8.15pm) commencing on January 18th. If this day or time doesn't work for you, do let me know as a further group may form. In this small-group setting, you will find the course offers a welcoming, sensitively-held space where you feel able to turn up 'just as you are'. Each session will include time to settle in together, some input on Focusing and companioning, and Focusing time in pairs or threes. The themes of the five course sections are:

  • An introduction to Focusing and companioning
  • The nature of the felt sense, and how to receive your own and others' experience skilfully and sensitively
  • The gifts of the body in Focusing and companioning
  • Offering suggestions in the listening role, and being with complex areas of inner experience
  • Self-criticism, 'exile' and Focusing in everyday life
We will explore these themes together in an experiential way, allowing plenty of time for your own input and reflections. The cost of each section is £120 (plus accommodation costs for the retreat). Please email me for further information and booking form. I look forward to hearing from you!

More

Focusing is a process that can enrich all areas of our lives, as it is about the very way that we attend to our experiencing. It can help us to step out of our habitual ways of relating to ourselves, others, situations and into a way of experiencing that is more nuanced, rich and alive. Focusing is a natural skill that anyone can develop and Focusing-listening partnerships are a brilliant resource for supporting our wellbeing and ongoing self exploration. Focusing could be seen as an antidote to the fast driven ways of the modern world – and perhaps can help us steer a calmer path through it! Learning Focusing can help

  • developing more of a connection with your body
  • improving your relationship with yourself
  • improving your self esteem
  • supporting you with overwhelming emotions such as anxiety
  • connecting with your intuition
The workshop will be highly experiential and will include plenty of opportunity to practice the Focusing process. There will be time to explore the concept of the ‘felt sense’ and the particular way of Focusing listening, as well as how Focusing can be used in day to day life. There is the option to complete a second workshop, then potentially four more weekend workshops which lead to a BFA Certificate in Focusing Skills. Once you have learnt this valuable process you can practice Focusing on your own or in a Focusing-listening partnership. Practising Focusing can be a lifelong skill for self awareness and support. More

Are you "at war" with yourself? or find it hard to accept aspects of yourself? Do your inner critics get the better of you? Are there feelings you wish you never had? and would you like to be at peace with yourself, harnessing all your feelings and energies? if so you may be relived to know… Everything inside of you is on your side. The embodied practice known as ‘Focusing’ gives us a trustworthy way of finding deep acceptance and compassion towards every feeling inside. It is a gentle yet powerful skill that can bring compassion and curiosity to even the most tricky aspects of ourself (think of the part of you that acts compulsively or you harsh inner judge). Once learnt, we will no longer have to be at war with any part of us…. and we can even discover the treasure these parts hold. At this free talk/taster, we will get to practice a key skill that begins us on our journey of self acceptance and learn more about why we have no enemies within. 7.30 - 8.30pm Hamilton House, Stokes Croft, Bristol BS1 3QY, Bristol Register by contacting me.

Online Focusing Skills Foundation Travel Lighter Course

BFA Certificated

Up to 6 participants only The course comprises of 5 Modules of 6 weeks ( x 2 hours a week)

What do you do when you want to let go of something in you, but it is not ready to let go of you!? How wonderful would it be if you could ‘be with yourself’ in a way that inspired flow and movement even with the most challenging of patterns, to tap into your innate body wisdom? Learn how to Travel Lighter with Focusing in your life.   What is Focusing? It is a moment by moment way of ‘coming home’ to yourself. It is an exquisitely sensitive way of listening to or sensing what our (inner) world is telling us, often in the form of subtle feelings/sensations, in a way that is safe and gentle. It offers a creative and quietly profound way of being even with what we find most difficult and challenging. In focusing we are often pleasantly surprised by fresh or new spaces emerging, even from ‘impossibly stuck’ places. I am therefore touched to share this precious vision, for my own quality of balance and growth and the sanity of the world, which badly needs it!  I believe I enrich Focusing through my 30 years as a Mindfulness practitioner and teacher and as a Non Violent Communication (NVC) trainer.  I am currently on placement with Cambridge University involved in a Mindfulness research project and teaching Focusing based Mindfulness to the students. More

What can dreams tell us about our life? How can Focusing help with understanding them? Might there be a way to explore them in a new way that brings clarity and change in our lives? Focusing is all about listening to what the body has to say about our life, but every night something similar happens with our dreams. Something in us (the body/the dream maker) gives us rich, mysterious and powerful symbols, telling us not just about our life situation but how we might carry those situations forward. This weekend will give us the opportunity to be with our dreams and explore them in a Focusing way. You will be invited to let go of rational thought and allow in the childlike or instinctual so we can look at intuition and what nourishes it. This workshop is suitable for people who have completed a one or two day Introduction to Focusing. This weekend workshop makes up days 7 and 8 of a Skills Certificate in Focusing.
