Yes, You Can – Learn to Cope With Focusing Vacation Workshop in Greece We all know it: the sensation of feeling bogged down by everyday life: thoughts of inadequacy, endless lists of things to do, quarrels with loved-ones... Now imagine you had a tool to keep all those negative thoughts and feelings at a good distance, so that you are not overwhelmed by them, but are able to deal with life's challenges in the best possible way. What would your life feel like? Focusing is just such a tool. Basically, Focusing teaches you how to have a helpful and healing relationship with yourself and with others. You first of all learn how to put a good distance between yourself and all that is bothering you. This is a prerequisite to deal with your problems in an effective way. It's a bit like reading: you have to keep the newspaper at an appropriate distance in order to make sense of what's written. But Focusing is even more. It's a way to tap into your intuition - into that part of yourself that already knows the way forward, the appropriate next steps, the way to live a fulfilled and authentic life. In this workshop you will learn:

  • the basic steps of Focusing
  • how to keep a distance between your problems and yourself
  • how to listen to your intuition
At the same time you'll be experiencing community living, sharing in everyday tasks like cooking or washing up etc. As the workshop will take place in the mornings only, there'll be ample time to relax at the beach, go for walks or simply lie in the hammock and read a good book. Introduction to Focusing Course Dates. weekend of the 4th and 5th May 2019 Course Outline Who is the course suitable for? This is an entry level course on Focusing. This course does not assume any knowledge of Focusing. Anyone interested in Focusing is welcome to join. Therapists interested in Focusing for personal and professional development, as well as Focusing-Oriented Therapy are also welcome to join the course and will gain from this, and we are happy to award a 12 Hour CPD certificate on attendance. There will be no more than 8 Participants on the course. Where is the course being held and when? The course is over 2 days (Saturday and Sunday)  on the the 4th and 5th May 2019   with a 9.30 meet for a 10am start. The course times are 10-5 each day. The  Venue - is The Meeting Place, North Street, Westbourne, W Sussex, PO10 8SP What does the course Cost?  The cost is £125 per person, including 12 Hours of training, a certificate of attendance and notes, also tea and coffee provided during the breaks. Does not cover lunch which you can bring with you. There is also a local co-op which sells sandwiches and salads. What does the course cover? Focusing helps us to heal our hurting feelings. and does so much more as well. In this course we will cover.

  • What is focusing?
  • How to spot when we and others are focusing naturally? Its amazing way of healing.
  • Focusing skills, including how to use focusing for well being healing creativity and others issues.
  • Focusing Partnership Skills including:
  • How to Focus on your own
  • Focusing with a companion as both a Focuser and a Companion
  • Focusing companion  skills including reflective listening that help people to focus better
  • Information on further focusing training, and focusing resources.
  • How to find a Focusing Partner.
  • Further resources in Focusing including information on Level 2.
You will receive a comprehensive set of notes which will underpin the course. We will also offer teaching, question and answer, discussion, demonstrations of focusing and also opportunities to practice Focusing using pair small group work depending on the numbers of people who attend. On day one everybody has an opportunity to try focusing with either John or Russell. We will also demonstrate both Focusing and Listening skills over the two days. On day two you will also have the opportunity to practice Focusing partnership skills with each other. Russ and  John will act as a support and a resource when you are focusing or companioning the focuser. Focusing Partnerships On completing this course, and if you feel ready, you will be able to join the BFA Focusing Partnership List on the BFA website and the Find a Focusing Partner (BFA Faceook Group ). It may also be possible to form a focusing partnership with other participants on the course. A focusing partnership can be one of the most effective ways of carrying   forward the skills and knowledge that you have gained from the course. BFA Skills Certificate and additional training available. This is the first of 5 training courses, 60 Hours of training, completion of which leads to a BFA Focusing Skills Certificate which recognises your training in Focusing partnership skills for a peer partnership. Beneath all of our stress and trauma lies an inner wellspring of intelligence and vitality that knows how to move our life situations forward. Invite your power of awareness to awaken this intuitive power of your body wisdom through the natural process of Whole Body Mindfulness. Many people are carrying great emotional pain. Suffering is fine if it can lead to a growth in understanding but pointless and cruel if it merely results in repetitive patterns of behaviour. Seeing the bigger picture: I believe that I am here, like everybody else, to learn Life’s lessons and to move forwards. That can only happen when I stop being so reactive and learn to see things from a different perspective. The deepest reason why I practice and teach Whole Body Mindfulness is that it gives me an intuitive feeling of grounding, safety and support from something much bigger than my little ego. Then my nervous system can calm down, my body feels more relaxed and alive, and I am able to step back and to see the bigger picture. Self-Responsibility is the key: From this new perspective, with mindful self-awareness, I can take responsibility for the parts of my behaviour that are clearly wrong and have contributed to any disharmony in the whole situation. These are the bits that I can change and as I do so I become more empathic about other people’s behaviour. This insight suddenly opens me up to the new possibilities that are surrounding me all of the time, but I am unable to see them due to the stress and trauma of my old reactive patterns. There is only Learning: With Whole Body Focusing it is possible to learn, to let go and to move forwards. All the pain of wanting to be right and to prove the other person wrong suddenly vanishes. There is no right or wrong anymore, there is only learning. The intuitive insights learnt are so powerful that this becomes a spiritual practice in it’s own right that naturally leads to change and activates new neural pathways. This can powerfully contribute to the ongoing process of mindful self-observation and self-transformation. Intuitive Listening: We will also explore the value of intuitive listening with Whole Body Focusing. When connected to our grounded presence, our body wisdom knows how to be with and listen to the other person in a way that we do not. Going beyond the cognitive mind and all theories to a place of pure intuitive knowing, words come that are exactly the right thing to say at the moment as a way of supporting the speaker. Combining elements of the Alexander Technique with the Inner Focusing practice developed by Eugene Gendlin, Whole Body Focusing encourages more of the body into the process of self-enquiry, increasing grounded presence and energy flow. Please note: Whole Body Focusing includes aspects of The Alexander Technique. No prior experience of this work is necessary, but some hands-on bodywork skills will be taught.

The online Focusing skills certificate is a complete and thorough foundation course in the art and skills of Focusing and listening. Once you have completed any introductory event, you can join the course. It comprises of four modules. Each module consists of five, two hour sessions over five weeks. There will also be partnership practice between sessions with other participants. They will take place using “Zoom”, a free online video conferencing platform.
