Focusing Online Course

BFA Certificated Focusing Skills Foundation Course Up to 6 participants only The course comprises of 5 Modules of 6 weeks ( x 2 hours a week)

Every bad feeling is potential energy toward a more right way of being if you give it space to move toward its rightness. Eugene Gendlin (Founder of Focusing) What if…..you already have within yourself surprising inner resources to life's dilemmas and frustrations? What if ….you could connect to a compassionate wisdom within whenever in need What is Focusing? It is a way of ‘coming home’ to yourself. It is an exquisitely sensitive way of listening to or sensing what our (inner) world is telling us, often in the form of subtle feelings/sensations, in a way that is safe and gentle. It offers a creative and quietly profound way of being even with what we find most difficult and challenging. In focusing we are often pleasantly surprised by fresh or new spaces emerging, even from ‘impossibly stuck’ places. It is, in my experience a deeply satisfying process allowing my heart and soul space to breathe and be itself, to find its own sense of rightness. On this 5 Module Course we will explore the following: Develop a grounded and balanced sense of yourself. Compassionately respond to your inner judge. Enable a gentle and deep inner healing process Develop empathic and sensitive listening Learn to sense and befriend your body in a new & empowered way Live life from the unfolding fresh moment Module 1 overview (First Steps on your Focusing Journey) offers A comprehensive introduction to focusing Allow you to engage in focusing partnerships Module 1 Content Exploring the landscape – Focusing and silent listening Describing and resonating Letting it be there as fully as it wants to be The shape of the Focusing process What can you expect in any one session Hear and see the others as you interact and explore focusing Do exercises, demonstrations and receive instructions Ring off for focusing sessions with other participants Connect with individuals and the whole group (up to 6) Reading and Focusing sessions between online sessions This online course offers a very convenient way o to participate from the comfort of home, avoiding travel and whilst enjoying a sense of connection and community. We will use Zoom - easy to download with the option to use a free phone based conference facility if need be. Zoom is really great because if you miss a session - we record all sessions - you can have a copy to listen to before the next session. Or you can simply have a copy for your learning library. Learning to sense inwards is at the basis of Focusing. During Level One the emphasis is upon noticing messages that your body gives you and accepting everything that you become aware of. Focusing is very natural and gentle and at the same time you might find that working at this level is powerful and revealing. Throughout the training there will be opportunities to share in the group, and to work with your own process. There will be a mixture of Focusing theory, discussion and practice. Taught by Paula Newman and Elizabeth Smith

  • Each day begins at 10 am and ends at 4 pm
  • Refreshments, reading materials and exercises included

More

Focusing is Mindfulness – and more. We explore ways of being with ourselves, our experiences and emotions; improving our sense of wellbeing and physical and mental health. These are natural skills that we can rediscover and reconnect with. Non-judgemental, safe and gentle, they support us in finding insights into issues in our lives and reconnecting with the flow of life within us. As we turn to our present moment experience together, we learn ways to help guide us in creativity, decision-making and emotional wisdom. Handouts will be available. No assessment or written work is required, although you may wish to bring pen and paper for note-taking. This day school can be a stand-alone introduction to Focusing, and it also forms the first six hours of the 60-hour Focusing Skills course, recognised by the British Focusing Association. Day 2 will be on 21st October 2017 and 17th February 2018 If you have previously attended an introduction to Focusing then you are also very welcome to join us; many people find that repeating Focusing Skills enables them to find more depth in their experience.
