The online Forward Living Focusing: Developing the Basic Skills Course, is the second module in this BFA Focusing Skills Certificate Program. This module will be followed by the other 3 and lead to the certification:http://www.focusing.org.uk/bfa-certificate-focusing-skills. In the foundation module, we were introduced to that something inside, the place where we find meaning and we delved into focusing, learning the basic steps that form the shape of a regular focusing session. When we completed the module we had the necessary knowledge to meet a focusing partner and do an effective and meaningful focusing exchange. In this exciting second module, we are going to go through the various stages, expanding and deepening the knowledge and skills we have acquired so far. This Course consists of 6 online classes, that will take place on following Sundays at 6 PM (CET): Meeting 1) Focusing at the edge - 11 March Meeting 2) Absolute Listening - 18 March Meeting 3) Centering - 25 March Meeting 4) Emotions in Focusing - 8 April Meeting 5) Loosening Identifications - 15 April Meeting 6) The Magic Pause - 22 April Each class will last 2 hours, beginning at 6 PM. Classes will be held online via ZOOM. As part of the Course, you will receive the following: - 30 min 1-on-1 entry session with Rob Matthews, your trainer. This session takes place before the beginning of the course and its aim is for you to make a point with your trainer on where you stand after Module 1 and what your goals and expectations for Module 2 are. - 1h 1-on-1 focusing session with Rob. The online Focusing skills certificate is a complete and thorough foundation course in the art and skills of Focusing and listening. Once you have completed any introductory event, you can join the course. It comprises of four modules. Each module consists of five, two hour sessions over five weeks. There will also be partnership practice between sessions with other participants. They will take place using “Zoom”, a free online video conferencing platform. This four week course is a treasure trove of tools and concepts to help you find a more loving, creative and intuitive response to what family life can throw at you. It brings together tools from Body based approaches such as Focusing and mindfulness and recent learnings from empathic parenting techniques, offering simple, everyday practices for you and your family. Some of the themes we will cover Being bigger than your feelings Listening with empathy (to you and your children) Facing difficulties and triggers Finding resources and support Trusting your own path Facilitated by: Peter Gill and Kirsty Pakes Peter Gill Peter has been teaching Focusing since 2005 and is fully qualified with the British Focusing Association (BFA) and the Focusing Institute in New York, teaching individuals, groups and also mentoring others to teach. He is also a qualified Somatic Experiencing practitioner (an embodied approach to healing trauma). He is passionate about sharing accessible and embodied skills that lead to well being and connection. Previous to teaching Focusing, Peter spent 12 years practising and teaching awareness and meditation skills to groups and individuals in a Buddhist context. He has a 7 year old son, and uses Focusing ideas and practices in his parenting. Kirsty is trained as a Clinical Psychologist specialising in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. She is also a Focusing Practitioner, Focusing-Oriented Therapist and Mindfulness Teacher. She is currently training with a parenting organisation called Hand in Hand to be one of their instructors. Hand in Hand’s approach is known as Parenting by Connection and uses wise and effective tools to foster your attachment with your child and their emotional well-being. Kirsty has a 6 year old daughter and a 3 year old son. She is passionate about both Focusing and Parenting, and feels that Focusing has given her the building blocks to create an emotionally attuned and compassionate relationship with herself and in turn with her children.
