Focusers Guide to the Galaxy: The Great Philosophers

6 Lunchtime Sessions exploring wisdom through felt sense

What if the great philosophers weren’t just thinking their insights—but felt-sensed them first?

Join us for a playful philosophical adventure where ancient wisdom meets embodied awareness. Through focusing and gentle inquiry, we’ll explore how Kierkegaard, Aristotle, the Buddha, Dogen, Simone Weil, and Socrates trusted what their bodies knew before words arrived.

No philosophy degree required. Just curiosity and a willingness to wonder: What does this wisdom feel like in my body, right now?

“The body is a multilingual being. It speaks through its color and its temperature, the flush of recognition, the glow of love, the ash of pain, the heat of arousal, the coldness of non-conviction.” —Clarissa Pinkola Estés

When?

Feb 4 – Mar 18, 2026 Tuesdays, 12:15-1:15pm GMT

Who?

COMPLETED

4 February – Kierkegaard’s Anxiety: Befriending Existential Unease
The Danish philosopher called anxiety “the dizziness of freedom” – a bodily signal about our choices and aliveness. We’ll explore staying present with existential discomfort rather than fleeing it.

NEXT UP…

11 February – Aristotle: A Being in Search of Meaning
Aristotle’s quest for meaning underlies all we do, but do we hit the mark? Exploring meaning through the felt sense and seeing where that takes us.

18 February – NO SESSION

25 February – The Buddha’s Felt Sense: Awakening Through the Body
Before enlightenment was a concept, it was a bodily experience under the Bodhi tree. Tracing how the Buddha’s teachings point directly to felt sense and embodied awareness.

4 March– Dogen: Just Sitting, Just Being
The Zen master taught that meditation isn’t a means to enlightenment – sitting is enlightenment. Exploring his radical teaching that the body sitting is already Buddha nature expressing itself.

11 March – Simone Weil: Attention as Love
Weil claimed absolute attention is prayer, and the rarest form of generosity. Exploring her radical understanding of attention, felt sense, and compassion.

18 March – Socrates and the Art of Inner Questioning
The Socratic method wasn’t just intellectual debate, but listening to what your body knows. Exploring how genuine inquiry creates space for wisdom to emerge from within, practicing the Dyad approach.

Through embodied awareness and focusing. Playful exploration with small groups, reflection, and connection.
