Paula Newman - Focusing Member in london

Several years ago a friend introduced me to Focusing. At the time I had no idea that it would become so important to me. I find Focusing enriching and very much in tune with my Person-Centred counselling approach. It helps me to reach deeper understandings and to listen to myself and others with empathy and acceptance.

I went on a Focusing retreat, Treasure Maps to the Soul with Barbara McGavin and Ann Weiser Cornell and then trained as a Certified Focusing Professional Trainer with Ann.

My project, ‘Bringing Focusing to a Counselling Supervision Group’ showed me that Focusing can increase counsellors' self-awareness and enhance their explorations in supervision. As a result I have developed my practice to include Focusing within supervision when requested.

During this workshop the emphasis is upon noticing messages that your body gives you and accepting everything that you become aware of. Focusing is very natural and gentle and at the same time you might find that working at this level is powerful and revealing. Throughout the training there will be opportunities to share in the group and to work with your own process. There will be a mixture of Focusing theory, discussion and practice.
