Develop Self-in-Presence with Focusing
This will be an experiential session. Find out what Focusing is and how it can help you to develop Self-in-Presence. There will be a presentation followed by a guided experiential exercise to help you to identify and develop specific qualities of Self-in-Presence, and experience it directly in your body. There will be some time for questions and answers with the presenter.
Focusing brings a disidentification from the content of your experience, such as thoughts, feelings and responses to life experiences. And it enables a compassionate inner listening that brings a change in how you experience yourself. You can use the words, ‘I am sensing something in me’, or ‘I am aware of something in me’. This places the locus of identity with the one who is doing the sensing; the one who is aware. What it does is to bring a shift away from being identified or merged with the content of your experience towards a more spacious, agenda-free awareness.
Fiona Parr is an educational Certifying Coordinator with The International Focusing Institute (TIFI), and a British Focusing Association (BFA) Mentor. She has 20 years experience of teaching Focusing which was developed by Prof. Eugene Gendlin, and she offers trainings to professional level. In recent years she has taught Focusing and Thinking at the Edge (TAE) on the Presence-oriented Psychotherapy training at the Just Being Centre.
Fiona says that spiritual life is important to her, and she says that Focusing supports her spiritual practice. She now shares these insights with others, and in 2020 she offered a webinar with TIFI on Focusing and Practical Spirituality, where she highlighted how you can bring spiritual qualities to enhance your Focusing practice. She also contributed a chapter in the upcoming book ‘Senses of Focusing’.
She is based in Devon, UK.
