Presence, Blocks and the Inner Relationship

16th October 2025 - 13th November 2025 Zoom

Focusing Skills Certificate Workshop/Event

Focusing is about meeting what’s inside from a place of being present with our experience. If we can cultivate this attitude of being with our inner feelings and parts then things become more manageable and we are more able to learn from what’s inside of us. In these modules we learn how to become more present and to relate to the parts and aspects of our experience from this place of presence. We also look at what gets in the way of the Focusing process with particular attention to parts that may leave us feeling criticised, doubted or judged (Gendlin called this the Inner Critic). Many, if not all of us, have experience of feeling a critical part or voice and its impact on us. We look at this area in depth in terms of how to apply a Focusing quality of attention even to parts which seem destructive or critical.

“Very satisfying workshop. Knowledgeable, competent and calm facilitator. Will take much away to use both in work and for self”

Thursdays 10am 1pm: 16th Oct, 23rd Oct, 6th Nov, 13th Nov 2025 (£160)

Modules three and four of the Focusing Skills Certificate

When Focusing we want to cultivate an ability to be present with our experience. Getting the right distance from difficult feelings can help us feel calmer and less overwhelmed. Developing a sense of presence also allows us to recognise the rich complexity of our experience, to stand back and marvel at the variety in our inner experience and foster a kinder relationship within.

You might notice you have a virulent inner critical voice, or you might notice a young seeming part of you, or a ‘joker’ or a rageful part. All of our inner parts have a role to play in who we are and how we travel through life. If we can only listen to them in a certain way then we can discover the role they have to play and how we can get the most out of our relationship with them.

As well as looking at our Inner Relationship and how to work with the different parts of us, during these modules we will also look at some of the reasons why you might get stuck when you’re Focusing and how to work with things that seem to get in the way of the process.

These workshops are suitable for people who have completed an Introduction to Focusing course with me or another teacher.

These workshops make up part of the Skills Certificate in Focusing.
